The Rule of Law can be defined as the application of the legal jurisdiction in making up government decisions about the subjects of the land. The principle, of rule of law, implies that no single individual is above the law. On the other hand, democracy refers to the government by the majority of the people. Protection of private property is the paramount role of the government of the land. This ensures that citizens feel secure in being under the umbrella of a government. Therefore, democracy is an application of the rule of law and the protection of private properties of the citizens. In this sense, medicine and private property formed a fundamental part of civilization and democracy.
In this sense, the rule of law and individuals’ protection of private properties are crucial conditions for earning democracy in a state. To begin with, the rule of law advocates for equity of all individuals in a state. In addition, it designs rules and ensures obedience of the same. The laws specify the powers of the leaders in a civilized state (Spielvogel 22). Application of the rule of law, by any government, is an indicator that the leaders in that government are civilized. Consequently, the society becomes civilized. Democracy can also be linked to the civilization of a society. In his book about civilization, Niall Ferguson defines civilization in as the way of life of the people of a society. Civilization is a unique characteristic to a given society. This implies that every society has its own level of civilization. Therefore, there is no parameter that can be used to gauge the civilization of a person. In turn, civilization is a subset of democracy. Although civilization began in Asia, it did not spread as fast as the same in western countries. This is an implication that the Chinese did not civilize the world as much as the Europeans did. Part of how this interaction took place is through the colonization of the new territories. For instance, Britain and France have played a prominent role in making the modern world.
The major focus on how civilization has helped the world is on improvement of Medicare and protection of private individuals’ property. Medicine is another significant element of civilization. In the ancient past, before formal medication spread in the world, individuals sought treatment from traditional doctors. The limitation of medicine led to loss of lives. Besides, the mortality rates were exceptionally high during those periods. However, civilization has led to improved health services. Additionally, people have a positive attitude towards formal medication thereby reducing the rate at which they lose lives.
century when a Spanish explorer, Christopher Columbus, discovered Florida (part of the US) (Ferguson 180). Columbus was on an exploration of finding the sea route from Europe to Asia. He referred to it as “the new found land” since he did not possess the name to the same. Thereafter, he reported his discovery to his mother country on return to Europe. This marked the beginning of settlement of Europeans in North America.
At this time, European countries were undergoing revolution, and they needed substantial raw materials for their fast growing industries. The British became the next Europeans to settle in North America (Spielvogel 32). It is vital to note that there was power competition in Europe at that time. This is because most countries needed a place to settle part of their population and attain more raw materials for industries. Other European countries got information about the discovery thereby moving and settling there. That explains why the European descendants inhabit the current USA. In the Americas, Britain did not only take the resources but also settled in the same. This was different from Spain’s way of conquest. Since the British established a home in America, their culture enhanced the civilization of the Indians in Canada and America. This led to the colonization of North America by the British.
The population of the Indians was less dense thereby making it easy for conversion of their way of living. Additionally, the British practiced capitalism. It becomes conspicuous that the Indians were motivated to work harder due to the industrialized culture of the British.
Population was the hindrance of the civilization of Mexico, Central America, Peru and Bolivia. The dense population of the Indians, that were the inhabitants of these countries, made it difficult for the transmission of the Spanish culture to the vast population. The large population meant that there was minimal interaction with the Spanish. This was accountable for a low rate of civilization.
. Two factors contributed the USA and Canada’s middle class. This includes the British culture and absence of a large Indian population. To begin with, the article addresses the issue of the English culture as pertains to the civilization of USA and Canada. The capitalistic culture, which the British instilled into the native Indians of America and Canada, gave them the urge to work hard to acquire their own wealth (Ferguson 108). Capitalism talks about class between the haves and have-nots as being dictated by hard work.
Civilization was the pillar that improved healthcare and lead to the reduction of mortality rate. In the pre-colonial Africa, healthcare of the people was very poor because of traditional means that the Africans used to handle health matter (Perry 23). As mentioned earlier, civilization has led to cutting down on of the death rates in Africa and other parts of the world. People are able to attain information on the prevailing medication thereby slicing on death rates. The mortality rate improved as people attained knowledge on childcare matters thereby making the rates of child survival high. This was a contrast to the past days of pre-colonization. An example concerns the case of Africa whereby medicine brought about much improvement to the healthcare of the people of Africa.
. It is crucial to note of the difference between the British and French ways of administering their colonies determined how the colony benefited from the healthcare and research carried out on the same (Perry 409). The French treated their colonies as if they were part of the same. This was unlike the British who viewed Africans as inferior beings. According to the British system, the research and administration of healthcare was restricted to the same. However, it was open to both the Europeans and Africans in the French system.
In summary, the fundamental factors that drove civilization pertain to private property and medicine Western countries are an essential component of the world civilization. It is crucial to note that the western countries contributed to the major part of civilization.. This was a pivotal role in other countries. This is evident from the fact that Europe has interacted with almost every country of the world. It is rational to conclude that the western world and the Europeans benefited symbiotically as the European acquired wealth. In turn, the conquered countries gained civilization. In this sense, democracy became a vital part of the process.
